Implant-Supported Overdentures

An Overdenture is a removable dental prosthetic that is tissue born but is retained using an implant attachment. Implant-Supported Overdentures help to prevent changes in the jaw that occur with edentulous patients and are often fabricated with a custom-cast base to provide a more long-term solution for your patient vs. a conventional denture.

BonaDent offers a variety of overdenture solutions, including dentures over locator attachments, as well as bar solutions. Common overdenture solutions include the following: Attachments: Zest Locator Attachments, Rhein or OT Attachments, Bredent (Ball Attachments) Bars: Hader or Dolder, Milled bar with locators/attachments

Tips for Your Patient

  • Avoid biting the overdenture into place, as this force will result in improper wear of the LOCATOR Abutment and may affect the longevity of the prosthesis.
  • To remove, patients should place one thumb under the left edge and one finger under the right edge of the overdenture and pull one side upward and the other side downward, simultaneously. Patients can also use their tongue to aid in removal of the lower overdenture.
  • Overdentures should be removed and cleaned daily
  • Refrain from picking at the abutments or retention inserts with toothpicks or other foreign objects.

Do NOT eat without the overdenture in place, as food will scratch the abutment and may result in implant failure.
